Biography

Mr. Paul Guy Desmarais, III, Jr., O.C., O.Q., serves as an Executive Chairman of Portag3 Ventures. Mr. Desmarais serves as an Executive Chairman and Managing Partner at Sagard Capital Partners, L.P. He is a Co-Owner of Desmarais Family Residuary Trust. He also serves as Vice President of Power Corporation and Power Financial. He has been the Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer at Power Corporation of Canadasince 1996. He has been an Executive Co-Chairman at Power Financial Corporation since 2008. He serves as an Executive Chairman and Managing Partner at Sagard Capital Partners, L.P. He serves as an Executive Chairman at Portag3 Ventures and Sagard Capital Partners Management Corp. He leads Power Financial's digital transformation through internal strategies and external investments. He has been an Executive Director of Pargesa Holding SA since 1992. He works with a number of early stage fintech companies and serves as the Chairman of Wealthsimple. He worked in Risk Management Group of Great-West Lifeco. Prior to joining Power Corporation of Canada in 1981, he was employed at S.G. Warburg & Co. Limited and Standard Brands Incorporated.
