Biography
Ron, and his wife Maureen, started out in the rental business in the mid sixties with two houses. Since that time they progressed and moved onto owing several apartment buildings. During that time Maureen raised three sons, and Ron worked at CN Rail in the Sales department. He did this until 1980, when he moved moved to Prince Albert Pulp, which later became Weyerhaeuser. Initially with Prince Albert Pulp, he worked at their subsidiary in Saskatoon - Saskatoon Chemicals. At that location, Ron was Traffic Manager in charge of moving dangerous goods, such as ccaustic soda, chlorine, and hhydrochloric acid, all of which were produced at that facility. When Weyerhaeuser bought Prince Albert Pulp, Ron moved to Prince Albert as Traffic Manager. At that location, he still maintained his involvement with Dangerous goods, but also assumed the responsibility for shipping pulp and paper. It was during this time that he honed his skills in negotiating rates with truck and rail carriers; also his term there allowed him to develop his interpersonal, skills. Both of these things have carried over in their rental business, and have proved to be invaluable. In addition to this Ron graduated from Robertson Business College, with an accounting certificate, prior to working with CN. At CN, he took a five year course with the Institute of Traffic, and Transportation, and received a diploma in this course in 1977. Ron, and his wife joined SKLA approximately ten years ago, and shortly thereafter, Ron was asked to join the Board. This has been an enlightening experience, and Ron has come to get a deeper understanding of the value of this organization.
