Biography
Dr. Dufour is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Biochemistry at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock Texas. Her research was instrumental in developing the technology leading to some of the Sertoli cell patents now licensed exclusively to Sernova. Dr. Dufour received a PhD in Genetics and Cell Biology from Washington State University, where she first began research on Sertoli cells as a graduate student. She then went on to receive further training as a postdoctoral fellow with Drs. Rajotte and Korbutt with the prominent Islet Transplantation Program at the University of Alberta. While there she received five postdoctoral fellowships to study the use of Sertoli cells as a way to immunoprotect transplanted islets. At Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Dr. Dufour continues to investigate the immunoprotective properties of Sertoli cells with the goal of developing ways to improve the survival of transplanted islets.
