Biography

Mr. Francois M. Legault, BBA, CA, served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of ViroChem Pharma, Inc. Mr. Legault has been an Executive Vice President of Investments and subsidiaries of Shire BioChem Inc. (aka Shire Canada Inc.) since September 1997. Mr. Legault is an experienced leader who, for the last 25 years, has held various senior management positions including 17 years in the biotechnology and high tech sectors. For the 15-year period from its inception to its merger with Shire Pharmaceuticals Inc. in 2001, Mr. Legault was part of the senior management team BioChem Pharma Inc., where he held the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and Investments. Mr. Legault served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration and Treasurer of BioChem, from February 1993 to February 1997 and Executive Vice President of Corporate Development and Investments of BioChem since February 1997. As Executive Vice President, he was responsible for corporate development, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, business development, licenses, strategic investments, the GeneChem Venture Capital Fund and the diagnostic products division. Prior to joining BioChem Pharma Inc., Mr. Legault served as Finance Director of Societe Quebecoise des Transports from 1984 to 1987 and served as a Chartered Accountant at Coopers & Lybrand from 1978 to 1984. He has been Chairman of the Board of Avance Pharma Inc., since December 2001. He has been Director of Neurochem Inc., since 2004. He also serves a member of a number of boards of biotech and biopharmaceutical companies. He served as Chairman of Ecopia BioSciences Inc., since April 2002 and its Director since 2002. Mr. Legault served as Chairman of Thallion Pharmaceuticals, Inc until August 12, 2009 and its Director from 2002 to August 12, 2009. Mr. Legault served as Lead Director of Adaltis Inc., and also served as its Director from 2001 to 2008. He served as Director of Targanta Therapeutics Inc., Mr. Legault served as Director of North American Vaccine Inc. since June 1996 and Clinichem Development Inc., since 1998. Mr. Legault served as a Director of ViroChem Pharma, Inc. Mr. Legault served as a Director of BELLUS Health Inc. since 2004. He served as Board Member of Anadys Pharmaceuticals Inc. He serves as Member of Investment Committee at CTI Life Sciences Fund, L.P. He received a B.B.A. in Business and Accounting from Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Montreal in 1978 and was admitted as a Chartered Accountant to the Ordre des Comptables Agrees du Quebec in 1980.
