Biography
José Suárez is President, Global Mining & Metallurgy. Mr. Suarez has significant prior experience in the mining and metallurgy business where he held leadership, business development and project management roles. Mr. Suárez was previously Executive Vice-President, Integrated Management Systems. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing all tools and processes related to project reviews and execution. He was also responsible for the Company’s Information Technologies, Global Procurement, Risk Management and Security functions, as well as its Health, Safety and Environment programs and initiatives. Prior to joining SNC-Lavalin, Mr. Suárez held the position of Managing Director, North America Mining Lead, and Global Mining Capital Projects Lead, at Accenture. In that role he was responsible for all mining client work for Accenture’s Management Consulting Practice (Resources) in North America and globally for Capital Projects. Prior to that position, Mr. Suárez was Senior Vice-President, Business Development, Mining & Metallurgy, at SNC-Lavalin. In that role, he created and managed strategies required to win key projects, and developed a more streamlined proposal development process. His work was instrumental in the securing of projects with a total capital value in excess of $20 billion. Mr. Suárez’s past roles as Project Director, Construction Director, and Global and Regional Vice President of Projects have given him experience in managing and leading engineering and construction operations around the world. He has significant domestic and international experience in the direct management of mega projects, procurement and supply chain management, mergers and acquisitions, business strategy development and implementation, and information technologies. Mr. Suárez has also overseen health, safety, environment and community initiatives, and led Corporate Social Responsibility programs. Mr. Suárez has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), and a Master’s of Science Degree in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas (KU). He is a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, Canada.
