Biography
Michael O’Brien was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island and graduated from Saint Dunstan’s University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. Between 2004 and 2006, Mr. O’Brien served as Provincial Deputy Minister of Development and Technology following serving seven years as provincial Deputy Treasurer. Previously, he was a general practice partner with Coopers & Lybrand, Chartered Accountants. In 1984, O’Brien was awarded his fellowship designation with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island and is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Since October of 2006 O’Brien has served on the Bank of Canada’s Board of Directors. He also currently serves as a member of the Atlantic Canada Venture Gateway Advisory Board. In 2011, Michael O’Brien was appointed Co-Chair of the Prince Edward Island Energy Commission. Mr. O’Brien’s long record of community work includes service as President of the United Way of Prince Edward Island, Secretary-Treasurer for Sport PEI, Vice-President Finance and Administration for the 1991 Canada Winter Games and member of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.
