Biography

Mr. Christopher John Swift, also known as Chris, CPA, has been the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. since January 5, 2015 and July 1, 2014 respectively. Mr. Swift served as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President at The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. from March 1, 2010 to July 1, 2014. He joined The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc in March 2010. Previously, he served as the Chief Financial Officer, Vice Chairman and Director of American Life Insurance Company (ALICO) until February 2010. He oversaw the ALICO unit's global financial operations, where his responsibilities included financial strategy and reporting, capital management, investments, risk management, treasury, product development and rating agency relationships, among others. Mr. Swift served as a Vice President of American International Group, Inc. since July 2005. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of Life Insurance & Retirement Services operations since July 2005. Mr. Swift also served as the Chief Financial Officer of Global Life Insurance and Retirement Services of AIG, Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President, of AIG American General Life Companies and Head of Annuity Operations. He is Chairman of the Board of the American Insurance Association. Mr. Swift began his career as an Auditor in public accounting of KPMG LLP , focused on financial services. He served for Conning & Company. Mr. Swift served as an Executive Vice President of Conning Asset Management, where he was responsible for finance, sales/marketing and information technology. After MetLife acquired Conning in 1999, Mr. Swift returned to KPMG and served as the Head of Global Insurance Industry Practice, where he worked with clients in both the life and P&C segments, globally and domestically and was responsible for matters ranging from strategic and regulatory to audit, risk, advisory and tax services. He serves as a Director of Catalyst Inc. He has been a Director of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. since July 1, 2014. Mr. Swift serves as a Director of SunAmerica Asset Management , LLC. He is a trustee of Marquette University. He serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Villanova School of Business. Mr. Swift served as a Director of Connecticut Innovations, Inc. He is also a member of The Business Council, the Council on Foreign Relations, the International Insurance Society and the Financial Services Roundtable. He earned a Certified Public Accountant designation. Mr. Swift received a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Marquette University.
