Biography

Mr. Daniel R. Fishbein, also known as Dan, M.D., has been the President at Sun Life Financial U.S. since April 1, 2014. Mr. Fishbein is a 25-year veteran in the employee benefits and group life insurance industries. Mr. Fishbein has been the President of United States at Sun Life Financial Inc. since March 17, 2014 and served as its Executive Officer from March 17, 2014 to April 1, 2014. Mr. Fishbein served as the President of Specialty Businesses at Aetna Inc. Mr. Fishbein served as the Head of Life Disability Dental and Vision Businesses at Aetna Inc. He served as President of Chickering Benefit Planning Insurance Agency, Inc. He served as General Manager of the Aetna Student Health business segment. He served as Head of Aetna Disability, Life, Dental, Vision and Student Health at Aetna Student Health Agency, Inc. He served as President of Aetna Student Health Agency, Inc. and was responsible for the Aetna Signature Administrators business. Previously, he was responsible for Product Development for the Key Accounts segment across the country. In 2002, he led the Select and Key Accounts business segment in New England and Upstate New York, with overall business responsibility for the middle market (employers from 50 to 3,000 workers). From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Fishbein was General Manager and had overall responsibility for business in Maine and this included over 100,000 health plan members. From 1995 to 1998, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of NYLCare Health Plans of Maine and the regional executive responsible for NYLCare's New England region. NYLCare of Maine was a start-up health plan that grew rapidly from inception to 60,000 members and was a part of New York Life's NYLCare Health Plans subsidiary. From 1990 to 1995, Mr. Fishbein served as Vice President and Executive Officer of New York Life, responsible for the Product Development and Managed Care divisions of Group Benefits. From 1985 to 1990, Mr. Fishbein was Second Vice President at MassMutual, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He serves as a Director of Spurwink Services Incorporated. Mr. Fishbein received his B.A. degree magna cum laude and M.D. from Boston University.
