Richard P. Mckenney

Biography

Mr. Richard P. McKenney, also known as Rick, has been the President of Unum Group since April 01, 2015 and has been its Chief Executive Officer since May 2015. Mr. McKenney served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Unum Group from August 2009 to April 01, 2015. He is responsible for evaluating and establishing a strategy for the financial performance of Unum Group. He articulates policy recommendations and is directly involved in key governance committees and multi-functional groups throughout and is also responsible for the finance division, which includes accounting, tax, financial planning, investor relations, enterprise risk management and corporate facilities management. He served as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice-President of Sun Life Assurance Company Of Canada since February 28, 2007. Mr. McKenney served as the Chief Financial Officer of Sun Life Financial Inc. at Sun Life Hong Kong Limited from February 28, 2007 to July 1, 2009 and was responsible for leading its enterprise-wide financial, actuarial, risk management, asset and liability management, capital management, taxation, planning, mergers and acquisitions and investor relations functions. He served as an Executive Vice President of Sun Life Financial Inc. from September 2006 to July 1, 2009 and Sun Life Financial Asia since September 2006. He served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of GE Financial Assurance Holdings Inc. since December 2002. Mr. McKenney served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Genworth Financial Inc. from May 28, 2004 to 2007. From May 2000 to October 2002, he served as Vice President of Business Planning and Analysis for GEFAHI. Prior thereto, he served as a Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis from October 1996 to April 1998 and Chief Financial Officer from April 1998 to May 2000 at GE Life & Annuity Assurance Company, an affiliate of Genworth Financial Inc. From July 1993 to October 1996, he served various positions on GE's Corporate Audit Staff. He served in the Manufacturing Management Program at General Electric Company from June 1991 to July 1993. He served as the Chairman at Unum Limited until April 16, 2017 and serves as its Non Executive Director. He serves as the Chairman of Unumprovident Finance Company Plc. He has been a Director of Unumprovident Finance Company Plc since September 30, 2009. He has been a Director of Unum Group since April 01, 2015. He served as a Director of Delaware Life Insurance Company (Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada (U.S.)). Mr. McKenney received a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University in 1991.
