Biography
From 2011 to 2013, Ray Smith was the Chief Financial Officer of Recon Instruments responsible for finance, legal, HR and supply chain. Recon is based in Vancouver, Canada and is a leader in wearable Heads-up Displays for sports and active lifestyle. Mr. Smith closed a $10M Series A financing round, closed additional debt financing rounds, established contract production in Mexico and helped set up Recon’s international web store. From 2000 to 2011, he was based in the US and was the Vice President of Finance for NASDAQ listed Eurand (which subsequently merged with Axcan Pharmaceuticals to form Aptalis Pharma). Mr. Smith helped establish Eurand’s US pharmaceutical sales and marketing business, successfully launching and promoting their first product, Zenpep, with a sales force of more than 70 reps and taking more than 20% market share in the first year. He was also part of the core team for their IPO in 2007, raising in excess of $100M. From 1992 to 2000, he worked in Europe and the US in the advisory and assurance practice of Ernst & Young. Mr Smith is a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. He holds a degree in Mathematics and Computation from Loughborough University in the UK.
