Biography
Eira Thomas was elected to Suncor’s Board of Directors in April 2006 and is the chair of the environment, health, safety and sustainable development committee and a member of the human resources and compensation committee. Ms. Thomas is a Canadian geologist with more than 20 years of experience in the Canadian diamond business, including prior roles as vice president of Aber Resources, now Dominion Diamond Corp., and as founder and CEO of Stornoway Diamond Corp. Ms. Thomas is currently a director of Lucara Diamond Corp. In 2004, Ms. Thomas was honoured as one of "Canada's Top 40 under 40" by the Caldwell Partners and Report on Business magazine. In 2007 she was named to Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 list by the Women's Executive Network and in 2008 she was named by the Davos, Switzerland-based World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader. Ms. Thomas graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor of science degree.
