Biography
Mr. Monesmith has been involved in waste management in Canada and the US for over 30 years. His experience includes development of comprehensive municipal solid waste management plans, review of environmental stewardship plans, developing and assisting regional planning to support sustainable energy, air quality, and zero waste goals. He has extensive experience in northern Canada dealing with a variety of issues around waste handling and diversion in isolated arctic communities. He has significant experience in waste diversion program design and development as well as project management. With a focus on operational efficiencies Mr. Monesmith has worked with many municipalities to implement bulk goods collection events.
Research Interest
Design waste minimization and diversion strategies. • Implement comprehensive community outreach plans based on social marketing and media techniques. • Liaison between clients and various government agencies. • Create greenhouse gas reduction strategies for operating facilities. • Perform waste audits for large corporate, municipal and regional clients. • Develop and implement zero waste operating strategies for clients throughout North America. • Create and/or review RFP’s for clients to insure best practices, sustainability and maximum diversions goals are met. • Oversee the building and operation of material recovery facilities (MRF’s) in B.C., Alberta, and the US. • Develop and implement environmental management systems• Oversee the design, build, and start-up of landfill transfer stations. • Develop major tourist venue into “Center for Sustainable Excellence” highlighting new technologies and best practices. • Design and implement green procurement protocols A sought after keynote speaker with a North American persepective on waste management.
