Biography
After completing a master of science degree in physical therapy at the University of Alberta in 2006, Dr. Satpal Dhillon graduated from medical school at St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies, in 2012. He completed his family medicine residency at the University of Manitoba and received Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) in 2014. Dr. Dhillon’s first few years of practice were spent in rural medicine in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. He served as clinical director of the hospitalist service at the Yellowknife Primary Care Centre and his practice included addictions medicine, performing vasectomies, and serving as a preceptor to residents and medical students. In his role as clinical director he worked on improving the inpatient experience for continuity of care, mental health resources, and cultural sensitivity. Dr. Dhillon recently moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia, where he practises full-scope family medicine at the the Snuneymuxw Health Centre, and serves as a hospitalist at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Dr. Dhillon has been involved with the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority as a member of the medical staff, the Department of Family Medicine Executive, the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee, and the Medical Advisory Committee. He also served as an ambassador for the Canadian Medical Association at the 2016 General Council. Currently, Dr. Dhillon is involved with the CFPC as a member of the Territorial Working Group, and has served with the Board of Directors as a Director-at-Large since 2016. Born and raised in Canada’s north, Dr. Dhillon has strived to improve health care access and delivery to marginalized and under-represented northern communities.
