Research Interest
Dr. Gaertner specializes in new media and digital storytelling, emphasizing the ways in which Indigenous artists, storytellers, and programmers engage the land and community with technology. As a teacher, David aims to empower Indigenous and non-Indigenous students with the skills and confidence to tell and share their stories via old and new media. He offers workshops and classes in digital storytelling, podcasting, blogging, gaming, radio broadcasting, and website development. He is currently at work on his first book, A Landless Territory: Theorizing Indigenous New Media and Digital Storytelling and is the co-editor of the collection Read, Listen, Tell: Indigenous Stories from Turtle Island, forthcoming from Wilfrid Laurier University Press.
