Biography

Ms. Harder, mezzo-soprano, has sung in recital, and with Choral, Operatic and Orchestral Organizations in Western Canada, Western USA, and participated in an Early Music concert tour of Hungary.  Opera roles include Mercedes (Carmen), Cherubino and Marcellina (Marriage of Figaro), Zita (Gianni Schicci) and Gertrude (Romeo and Juliet); Cio Cio San’s mother (Madame Butterfly) and Bridesmaid (Marriage of Figaro) with Vancouver Opera Association.  Concert performances include Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Israel in Egypt, Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, as well as numerous performances of Handel’s Messiah.  Ms. Harder has also been heard on CBC Radio, most recently as part of “Grace Notes,” a program of music by Canadian composer Leslie Uyeda, which was performed for “Music in the Morning.”  In March 2009, Caroline presented her final doctoral lecture recital, performing arias from roles studied as part of her dissertation topic: “The Roles of ‘Mothers’ in Opera as exemplified by Fidès (Meyerbeer’s Le Prophète); Kostelnička (Janáček’s Jenůfa); Mrs. Patrick De Rocher (Heggie’s Dead Man Walking). She completed her DMA in August of 2009.  She has been an Equity member of Vancouver Opera Chorus since 1993. Caroline has also been teaching at Trinity Western University since Fall of 1991.
