Biography
Deanna Schick came to Trinity to be the Athletic Therapist for the varsity athletics teams. She taught the Athletic Injuries course in addition to these duties and was soon asked to come to the Human Kinetics department full-time. She has over 10 years of teaching experience in a variety of settings and brings this knowledge to Trinity classrooms. Deanna's research centers on injury rates in athletics and she is working on a PhD in the area of concussion assessment. Deanna also continues to be involved in the sport medicine community. She was recently the Medical Director of the BC Summer Games. An exciting opportunity was serving as the Supervisor of Athletic Therapy for the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics. She has been active with the provincial and national Athletic Therapy Associations serving as the Chair of the Education Committee of the CATA and the President of the ATABC. In the past few years Deanna has been recognized by the CATA with a research grant and two writing awards. She recently stepped down from the Board of Directors of SportMed BC after six years of service. Deanna's commitment to the field of athletic therapy spurred the partnership with Mount Royal College that Trinity has today to train future athletic therapists. Deanna coordinates the Athletic Therapy Stream in the School of Human Kinetics. She enjoys working with students preparing for their certification exams and helping hone their skills.
