Biography
Dr Finegan is a professor of anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine at the University of Alberta. He graduated from the National University of Ireland at Dublin, obtained his Fellowship in Anesthesia from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and subsequently, the Royal College of Physicians in Canada. He is a cardiac anesthesiologist who for many years studied innate and drug-induced mechanisms of myocardial protection. In the last six years his has been leading out of hospital programs to reduce smoking rates in surgical patients, with the goal of promoting the long term reduction of cardiovascular risk.
