Hao Liang

Biography

Hao Liang is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Alberta. He received the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 2013. From 2013 to 2014, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Broadband Communications Research (BBCR) Lab and Electricity Market Simulation and Optimization Lab (EMSOL), University of Waterloo. He is a recipient of the Best Student Paper Award from IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Fall-2010), Ottawa, ON, Canada. Dr. Liang was the System Administrator of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (2009-2013). He served as a Technical Program Committee (TPC) Member for major international conferences in both information/communication system discipline and power/energy system discipline, including IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), IEEE Global Communications Conference (Globecom), IEEE VTC, IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference (ISGT), and IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm).

Research Interest

Interests My research is interdisciplinary in nature across the fields of power and energy systems and information and communication systems. Specifically, I am interested in the areas of intelligent energy systems, smart grid, and energy and spectrum efficient wireless networking. Along with the preeminent researchers from all over the world, I am looking for major breakthroughs in energy efficiency, reliability, security, and sustainability. Current Research Microgrid planning, operation, control, and self-healing Distribution system operation with distributed generation and energy storage devices Energy management of electric vehicles and vehicle-to-grid systems Joint planning and operation of electric power system and communication network in smart grid Energy efficient wireless networking Resource management in delay tolerant networks and vehicular networks Cross-layer design and optimization.
