Lynne Ray

Biography

Degrees Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Alberta (1999) PhD, University of Washington (1997) MN, Dalhousie University (1988) Health Care Management Certificate, BC Institute of Technology (1986) BSN, University of British Columbia (1980) Dr. Ray's background is in child health with a specific focus on families who are raising children with chronic conditions. She is leader for the Child Health Stream in the Masters program which prepares advance practice nurses. She has taught research methods at both an undergraduate and graduate level.

Research Interest

Dr. Ray's research focuses on children with chronic conditions and their families. She has conducted several qualitative studies and has developed a model of family caregiving, the Parenting and Childhood Chronicity model (PACC). She has also developed two new measures, the Scope of Caregiving Scale (SOCS) and the Dimensions of Childhood Chronicity scale (DOCC). The first measures both the visible and invisible work of raising a child with a chronic condition. The second assesses how generic or noncategorical features of the child's condition affect the child and family's participation in everyday life. Dr. Ray is currently leading a project for the Child and Youth Home Care Network which will develop an online inventory of outcome measures for using in evaluating children's home care nationally.
