Biography
Dr. Owen Addison qualified as a dentist from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2001. He received his PhD in Biomaterials in 2007 and subsequently completed a 5 year specialist training in Restorative Dentistry in 2012. Appointed as a Lecturer at the University of Birmingham in 2007, he became Senior Lecturer and honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry 2012 and in 2015 was appointed to Chair in Applied Biomaterials. In 2016 he took up the position as the ADA&C Endowed Chair in Oral Health Translational Research at the University of Alberta.
Research Interest
Research Interests (4 themes) Predictive performance modelling and development of dental biomaterials Advanced biophysical measurements of soft and hard tissues and engineered materials Investigating materials determinants of peri-implant biological outcomes. Development of novel approaches to improve biological outcomes associated with implanted devices. The research group ethos is highly multidisciplinary with opportunities for Life, Physical and Clinician scientists. There is a high level of international engagement in Europe, North and South America. The group is experienced with working with industry either as partners or providing contracted services. The group has an excellent track record of training and developing early stage researchers with a significant proportion remaining in academia.
