Biography
Dr Rashiq was born in London, UK and obtained his basic medical degree from University of Nottingham, UK. Prior to coming to Canada in 1992, he completed house officer positions in medicine, surgery, emergency medicine and anesthesia in the UK and was a medical officer on a mountaineering expedition in southern Chile. He completed his anesthesia training at the University of Alberta in 1995. He was a Clinical and Research Fellow in Pain Medicine at the University of Washington’s Multidisciplinary Pain Centre in Seattle in 1997/98. He obtained the degree of Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2002. He is Director of the Division of Pain Medicine and also of the University Hospital’s Multidisciplinary Pain Centre. He co-ordinates the Resident Mentorship Program under the auspices of the Office of Staff Wellbeing. His research interests are the use of opioid analgesics in chronic non-cancer pain, functional and quality of life measurements in chronic pain states. He is married with three children and cycles to work when the weather is fine.
