Biography
Biography Steven K. Dew received his BASc and MASc degrees in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia in 1987 and 1989, respectively. He completed his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1992. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta in 1992 and became a full Professor in 1998. From 1999-2015, he has been Associate Dean (Research & Planning) in the Faculty of Engineering. Since 2015, he has been Provost and Vice-President (Academic). Dr. Dew has received the distinctions of Killam Professor (2002), McCalla Research Professor (1998) and has received the Douglas R. Colton Medal for Research Excellence from the Canadian Microelectronics Corp. (1994). He is also an ABET IDEAL Scholar (2011). He is a Professional Engineer and Member of APEGGA. His research areas are in micro- and nanofabrication and in thin film technology, in which he has published about 100 journal papers.
Research Interest
Research Interest Specific projects include the heterogeneous integration of nanocomponents using DNA and antibodies; fundamental studies of nanoscale electron beam lithography, including high density patterning, low energy exposure, and kinetic modeling of development; and fundamental studies of the sputter deposition thin film technology, including in situ experimental monitoring and a comprehensive simulator of the sputtering process.
