Biography
Biography Dr. Ying Yin Tsui is currently a professor and the Associate Dean of Research and Internationalization in the Faculty of Engineering. He has been a Guest Scientist of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and a visiting scientist of the Stanford University's SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a registered Professional Engineering the province of Alberta. He was the Chair of the Division of Plasma Physics of the Canadian Association of Physicists. He has been involved in organizing many scientific conferences including as Chair of the 43rd IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science and as Chair of the 2017 International Workshop on Warm Dense Matter.
Research Interest
Research Interests Dr. Tsui is interested in the interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter. His research is mainly focused on the fundamental understanding of the interaction of optical radiation with matter as well as the development of several photonic applications. In addition, he is also interested in the interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter at other frequencies including x-ray and THz. His current research projects include the studies of the basic science of ultrafast laser matter interactions focusing on matter in the Warm Dense Matter and High Energy Density Matter regimes and the development of applications which include laser materials processing, laser sensing, and inertial confinement fusion.
