Research Interest
Dr. Qiu’s research focuses on developing new algorithms and information technologies to model and optimize the operations of practical roadway network. In order to improve roadway mobility and safety for both arterial and freeway network, Dr. Qiu and his team has had the expertise and success in the following areas: Intelligent Transportation Systems Urban Traffic Big Data Connected and Automated Vehicles Traffic Flow Theory Traffic Operation and Control Research Currently in Progress The overall objective of Dr. Qiu’s research team is to enhance our understanding of roadway traffic operation and control, provide a foundation and guidance for deploying and operating next-generation Advanced Traffic Management Systems, provide a tool for traffic management agencies to real-time choose optimized control strategies to avoid or mitigate congestion, enhance efficiency and improve safety. Dr.Qiu’s current research projects include: Development of ACTIVE-AURORA Connected Vehicle Test Bed, first in Canada Zhejiang Connected Vehicle Project in Collaboration with CETHIK in China Connected Vehicle Based Traffic Dynamic Modeling and Proactive Freeway Control to Improve Mobility Review and Development of Framework for Big Data and Analytics in Transportation Emerging Technology Evaluation and Prototype Development to Improve Alberta's Transportation System.
