Research Interest
I am interested in the cognitive processes and social experiences that help children come to understand verbal irony or sarcasm. My research has examined when children are able to understand verbal irony, how children of different ages perceive it differently, and whether certain cues can help them better understand it. I am also interested in why children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) tend to struggle to understand verbal irony. In a separate line of research, I am examining the cognitive processes that help young children with ASD to think about the thoughts of other people.
