Christina Cameron

Biography

Christina Cameron is the Holder of the Canada Research Chair in Built Heritage Member of the Order of Canada Honorary Member of the College of Architects of Ontario Chair of the Official Residences Advisory Committee of Canada President of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO Member of the Royal Society of Canada Member of the University Council Before arriving at the Université de Montréal, she has a career of more than thirty-five years in a management position in the field of heritage at Parks Canada. As Director General of National Historic Sites, she provided national direction for Canada's Historic Places, including heritage conservation and educational programs. She also served as Secretary of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada from 1986 to 2005. Head of the Canadian Delegation to UNESCO's World Heritage Committee since 1990, she has been actively involved as a Chair (1990, 2008), Rapporteur (1989) and chairing several international expert meetings.

Research Interest

Christina Cameron conducts a research program that addresses the problem of the evolving notion of built heritage and the consequences of this evolution on the processes of conservation, development, appropriation and management. A world heritage expert, she leads several research projects, including the history of the World Heritage Convention, interviews with Convention pioneers as part of UNESCO's Oral Archives initiative, a study on Heritage values ​​of the Université de Montréal campus and Canadian approaches to the conservation of built heritage between 1950 and 2000. She is also interested in cultural landscape issues and UNESCO cultural conventions.
