Biography

Clément Demers is a Member of the Quebec Order of Architects (OAQ) and Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and, in an honorary capacity, the Association of Architects in Private Practice of Quebec (AAPPQ) Emeritus member of the Quebec Association of Urban Planners (OUQ) and member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) Member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and Project Management Professional (PMP) certified and Governor of the PMI-Montreal section Researcher at the Ivanhoé Cambridge Observatory for Urban and Real Estate Development at the Université de Montréal Program Coordinator (DESS and Master) in Project Planning and Management (MGPA) Member of the Advisory Committee on Planning, Design and Realty of the National Capital Commission of Ottawa Member of the Urban Development Strategy Committee of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal Member of the Board of Directors of Mission Design Member of the Board of Directors and Governor of Les Amis de Montagne Member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec (OUQ) Member of the Board of Directors of the House of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (MADU) Member of the Real Estate Committee who reports on the management of the project to revitalize the Outremont site and all other real estate transactions at the University Council After a 15-year career with the City of Montreal, where he held the position of Deputy Director of the Planning Department and Assistant Director of the Housing and Urban Development Department, directed for 6 years the destiny of the Architectural Heritage Society of Montreal (SIMPA). This Corporation has, alone or with partners, completed office building projects, condominium or hotel projects or cultural facilities representing total investments of more than $ 400 million (1994). These projects, including the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, the Montreal World Trade Center, the InterContinental Hotel, the Chaussegros-de-Léry Complex, the Bagg, Cuvillier-Ostell and Le 1 McGill condominiums are worth about fifteen important prices. From June 1994 to the beginning of 2000, Clément Demers was Senior Executive Vice President of Cadev, a company owned by the Caisse Real Estate Group of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. This company was responsible for the development of a portfolio of largely contaminated land and industrial, residential, commercial or recreational uses totaling 600 ha in Quebec. From January 1997 until today, he was entrusted with the responsibility of assembling the Montreal International District (QIM) project, today renamed the AGIL Company. He currently holds the position of General Manager. This project received 31 major distinctions in 15 different fields, including the 2005 Project of the Year awarded to the World's Best Managed Project by the Project Management Institute. The AGIL company manages, for the City of Montreal, the Quartier des spectacles project - Place des Arts sector (30 ha), which will be completed from 2008 to 2017, and for the Parc Jean-Drapeau, a project to redevelop part of the Expo 67 site for the fiftieth anniversary of this major event. For over 35 years, he has also been involved in the community through his many commitments to boards of directors and committees of organizations dedicated to cultural, social, environmental or real estate issues.

Research Interest

The research interests of Clément Demers focus on the management and assembly of architectural and development projects, and in particular on their legal and financial aspects and stakeholder play (role of the client, mediation, public participation , partnering and public-private partnership). He is also interested in the areas of urban design and urban architecture, architectural heritage and real estate development with a view to sustainable development. He has worked on the issues of development of public rights of way, recycling of buildings and insertion in old neighborhood, and cultural facilities. He is also currently a researcher at the Ivanohe Cambridge Observatory for Urban and Real Estate Development .
