Research Interest
His research focuses on the political psychology of citizens. In a democracy, political power rests on popular sovereignty. Citizens designate governments in regular elections and their demands contribute to political debates constantly. It is important to understand the behavior and political opinions of citizens. My work is done both in the context of electoral contests and at more normal times, in Canada and elsewhere. I am the principal investigator of the Canadian Election Study for the 2011 election and the next federal election. I also study large-scale deliberation at citizen assemblies. Some questions are of particular interest to me: How do people form their political preferences? Why do they sometimes change their minds? What is the quality of the political opinions of citizens?
