Research Interest
His recent research focuses on early life conditions (nutrition, infections, socioeconomic status) and their long-term health and longevity consequences. Since not everything is always played out in advance, I complement this research with an analysis of the intermediate factors that can modify or even mitigate the effect of early-life conditions, such as the socioeconomic level attained in adulthood, social mobility, fertility and migration. As such, I participated in setting up a new committee entitled "Health Trajectories" at the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP). My research also focuses on epidemics in history (especially those caused by influenza), the emergence of socioeconomic gradients in health or the biodemography of fertility and mortality. They also pay particular attention to the evolutionary and genetic implications of demographic behavior in general. In this context, the long-term perspective is essential, not only with respect to individual life-courses, but also with regard to major demographic transitions; this is why these works are based on longitudinal micro-data that are both historical and contemporary. These sources come from not only in terms of individual life courses, but also in relation to major demographic transitions; this is why these works are based on longitudinal micro-data that are both historical and contemporary. These sources come from not only in terms of individual life courses, but also in relation to major demographic transitions; this is why these works are based on longitudinal micro-data that are both historical and contemporary. These sources come fromQuebec population register (1608-1850) and an ongoing project on centenarians linking censuses to Québec civil status (1900-present). Finally, I am currently developing new projects on the socio-economic integration of immigrants and on the selection effect of healthy immigrants.
