Research Interest
Godrie Baptiste's research focuses on social inequalities, social participation and the production of knowledge. They are based on the idea that the recognition, production and transmission of knowledge are the product of systemic inequalities and oppressions that structure social relations. These research interests lead me to mobilize participatory research methodologies that promote non-hierarchical relationships between the knowledge of different social groups. My questions are nourished by the study of the practices of citizen participation in the field of social services and health which offer an observatory of the relations between experiential, academic and professional knowledge. My research approach is also part of a critical reflection on the social state as a privileged place of production and reproduction of inequalities between knowledge, but also as a place of experimentation of new relationships between knowledge by through social participation practices. Among the research questions that interest me: what is the nature and scope of the different types of knowledge (experiential, professional, academic) for reflection and action on social and epistemic inequalities? How to get out of reports of non-recognition and appropriation of experiential knowledge (by biomedicine, professional groups, researchers, etc.) held by groups suffering from material and epistemic injustices? How to "work" together different knowledge (clinical, scientific, experiential) recognizing their full value and effectiveness for analysis and action against a given problem?
