Biography
Gérard Beaudet is an Urban Planner Emeritus (2010) OUQ and ICU Director, Sustainable Mobility Observatory Associate Researcher, Ivanhoe Cambridge Observatory for Urban and Real Estate Development Research Associate, Canada Research Chair in Built Heritage Associate Member, Center for Research on Ethics, Université de Montréal (CRÉUM) Member of the Order of Planners since 1982 Member of the Order of Architects from 1983 to 1998 Member of the editorial board of the magazine Téoros (UQÀM) since 1994 President of the Québec Heritage Forum from 1994 to 1996 Member of the Board of ICOMOS Canada from 1986 to 1998 and Vice-Chairman of the Francophone Committee from 1991 to 1996 Member of the Board of Heritage Montreal from 1990 to 1996, Vice President from 1996 to 1997 and President from 1997 to 2000 After completing a degree in architecture and urban planning at the Université de Montréal, Gérard Beaudet was project manager and then senior partner at Société technique d'aménagement régional inc. (Sotar). From 1980 to 1996, he conducted more than 200 studies and expertise in urban planning, heritage and recreotourism on behalf of ministries, government agencies, local and regional municipalities and organizations. Over the last twenty years, Gérard Beaudet has published numerous articles of opinion and analysis in Montreal and Quebec dailies, in periodicals, as well as in magazines and professional newsletters; he has participated as a speaker or panelist at more than two hundred symposia, conferences and professional activities; he has completed more than 300 interviews in the print and electronic media and has participated in more than 100 public affairs programs. He also contributed to episodes of the Chantier series dedicated to Place Ville-Marie, the Montreal motorway network and the Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine bridge-tunnel, originally released in the fall of 2005, and a series on the motels of the Quebec released in 2008.
Research Interest
Gérard Beaudet's main research interests are heritage, urban regeneration, urban morphology, metropolitan urbanism, regional planning, mobility, landscape and tourism development. He is currently responsible for the Observatory of Sustainable Mobility attached to the School of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture.
