Research Interest
In recent years, the themes of public debate and deliberative democracy have contributed to renewing the study of collective action and social movements as well as public action. My empirical researches and my theoretical reflections take note of it. This leads me to reiterate a perspective of analysis turned towards the ambivalence of the relations between actors and institutions, the objective being to better understand the concrete forms of organization that the social actors take. I am particularly interested in social mobilizations around urban issues, particularly those that formulate a subversive definition of the city or that defend principles of justice. But I am also interested in the institutional forms that the new modalities of urban and urban regulation take. The cooperation and governance mechanisms put in place in this respect concern the public authorities and civil society, as well as being articulated at multiple scales (neighborhood, city, region, metropolis). Given the trends at work in the processes of transformation of suburban spaces, it is above all the metropolitan scale - even 'megapolitan' - that holds my attention. In addition, my work deals primarily with the Quebec and Canadian context and takes into account the economic, social and political dimensions related to the challenges of globalization.
