Biography
Jean-Pierre Chupin is the Director of the Research Chair in Contemporary Competitions and Practices in Architecture Co-Director of the Laboratory for the Study of Potential Architecture (LEAP) Member of the Ordre des Architectes du Québec (since 1993) Member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Member of the Research Committee of the Université de Montréal Education Architect, Jean-Pierre Chupin taught at the Université du Québec à Montréal, the Toulouse School of Architecture and the Lyon School of Architecture, before joining the Université de Montréal in 2001. Now lives in Belgium where she makes knowledge transfers on the analysis of architectural competitions following her stay in our team. 09/2008 - 09/2009 SOBREIRA, Fabiano, architect in the Brazilian Parliament where he heads the department in charge of issues related to universal accessibility and sustainable development and performs various research on architectural and urban design competitions following his postdoctoral stay at the LEAP laboratory under our direction.
Research Interest
Holder of the Research Chair in contemporary competitions and practices in architecture , co-founder and scientific director of the Potential Architecture Study Laboratory , Jean-Pierre Chupin carries out research on the architectural project, on architectural judgment and on the phenomenon of competitions. In particular, he coordinates the design and maintenance of documentary databases on Canadian architectural competitions ( Catalog of Canadian Competitions ) and EUROPAN competitions , and conducts a comparative analysis of architectural, landscape and architectural competitions. planning. His research focuses on knowledge by analogy in architecture and constructive imagination. With Cyrille Simonnet and Kenneth Frampton, he published The Tectonic Project (InFolio, Geneva, 2005). Researcher in residence at the Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA) in 2004, he studied in particular the case of Città Analoga by Aldo Rossi. The first volume of his research on analogy was published in 2010 (reissued in 2012) at InFolio Publishing (Geneva) under the title: Analogy and Theory in Architecture (From Life, City and Design, same) in the "Project and Theory" collection, which he co-directs with Professor Paolo Amaldi of the ENSA of Versailles.
