Biography

Juan Torres is an  Associate Professor &  Vice Dean of Graduate Studies.   Member of the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners Researcher at the Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Urbanization in the Global South Researcher at the Ivanhoe Cambridge Observatory for Urban and Real Estate Development (UdeM) Member of the Interuniversity Network Cities Regions World.  Community involvement:    Member of the steering committee of the program "On foot, by bike, active city" and Vélo Québec's accreditation committee, Vélo Québec Member of the Accreditation Committee of the "Child-Friendly Municipalities" Program, at the Carrefour action municipale et famille (Quebec City) Member of the Strategic Committee "Vital Signs", Foundation of Greater Montreal.     Education:    URB 6753 Concepts and practices of urban design. EDD 6070 Planning Elements (Co-Teacher and Coordinator).   Areas of expertise are  Participatory approach Urban design and urban architecture Children and the city Ethics in planning Transport infrastructure Mobility and accessibility Sustainable neighborhoods Person-environment relationship Urbanization and development in developing countries town planning.

Research Interest

A graduate in architecture and urban planning, Juan Torres's research work links three areas: urban design, community sustainability and the relationship between the city and the child. Recent achievements include active mobility of children and adolescents, as well as youth participation in urban planning decision-making.
