Research Interest
Montpetit Eric says that For more than a decade, I have been researching public policy in Canada, but also in the United States and Europe. The study of public policies is of particular importance since they are the most tangible result of government activity. It is during their production that the political actors, both those who are elected and those who are not, are active. Power games, persuasion and learning intertwine with results that sometimes serve the common good, sometimes not. In short, the analysis of public policies makes it possible to grasp the functioning of democracy. Contrary to what many commentators and political journalists say, my analyzes show that the production of public policies in North American and European democracies should inspire more than In a recent book, I show in particular that disagreements between policy development actors do not have the blocking effects that the media often attribute to them. Normals in democracy, disagreements even favor the development of innovative and more legitimate policies. My current research attempts to demystify the role of science and experts in conflicting public policy-making contexts.
