Research Interest

Nadeau Richard's research focuses on electoral behavior, public opinion and political communication. I study in particular the contribution of long-term factors (ideology, partisan attachment, etc.) and short-term factors (image of leaders, issues) on the behavior of voters. My work has shed light on how citizens form their perceptions about their political and economic environment and how these influence their behavior. My work on economic voting has shed light on little known or neglected aspects of this phenomenon. I have shown, for example, the links between political institutions and the importance of economic voting, and the impact of households' financial wealth on their political behavior. My work also focused on the image of the chefs. I was interested in both the extent of it and its impact on voter choices. I finally studied the strategies of party framing and showed that current theories about the strategic behavior of parties during election campaigns should be amended to reflect recent advances in the field of political communication. My work has covered several regions and countries (Quebec, Canada, United States, France, I have also carried out numerous popular science activities in the media and I have been a consultant for the Quebec and Canadian governments (I have been an advisor to the Premier of Quebec and the Leader of the Opposition) official) and many other organizations in Canada and abroad.
