Research Interest

Specializing in the design and development of building systems, Roger-Bruno Richard uses the strategies and technologies of industrialization to make quality architecture accessible to as many people as possible. His research focuses on processes that simplify construction as well as individualization (mass customization) and adaptability to spatio-temporal changes without demolition. Design of three hybrid "Carrier Core" hybrid construction systems, where all the complex elements of accommodation such as equipment & services are concentrated in pre-machined 3D modules supporting large slabs & envelope panels in order to generate the spaces of stay once arrived on the site: RICHARDESIGN, a multi-variation of prefabricated concrete cores developed since 1985 and partially subsidized by the National Research Council of Canada (2000) and the Société d'habitation du Québec (2003); including a  high-rise application  to the Hong Kong context developed during the stay as Visiting Scholar at the University of Hong Kong in 2015-2016; GINTER, system based on three precast concrete base cores adapted to the context of North Africa (1982); IRCOBEC (Quebec Manufacturing Consortium), a lightweight steel system for the construction of 3,000 townhouses; FIRST PRIZE of an invitational competition sponsored by the Government of Iran (1976-1978). JAPANESE MANUFACTURED 3D MODULES SERVING AS LOAD-BEARING CORES AROUND THE WORLD : proposal developed in 2007 as part of the Research Fellowship at the University of Tokyo; Application of 3D modules produced by MISAWA HOMES and SEKISUI HEIM companies as carrier cores for export. Development of an Industrialized / Flexible / Demountable System for University Pavilions (SIFDU) of type beam & column in precast concrete (2007). Its classification of industrialized construction systems is internationally recognized. Roger-Bruno Richard stayed at the Matsumura-Fujita Laboratory of the University of Tokyo in 2007 as a Research Fellowship holder   and at the Department of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong in 2015-2016 as Guest researcher. He is co-founder of the International Research Alliance for Sustainable Built Environment (IRASBE).
