Research Interest

His research activity is at the confluence of the psychology of health and clinical psychology. Two lines of research can be identified in the current work. First, I try to understand what are the psychological implications of the disease, taking into account the central aspects of quality of life and adjustment to the disease. I am interested in the measurement and detection of emotional distress and psychopathological repercussions of the disease. This modeling and the subsequent measurements are an essential step opening up to psychological intervention. Second, I study caring-nurtured relationships, through notions like empathic understanding. I seek to define and measure clinical empathy, to understand the factors that favor and impede empathy, and to evaluate the effects of clinical health empathy. I develop research in the field of cancer and psychosocial oncology, taking into account the impact and the adjustment of diseases on the individual, the dyads and the family. So I lead work in both child psychology and adult psychology. My work is based on a constant back-and-forth between research and practice in order to ask clinically relevant research questions and enrich the clinical activity with new data. My laboratory is based at the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Center where I am responsible for the Quality of Life theme of the Immunology-Hematology-Oncology center of excellence. This team welcomes doctoral students, post-docs, and MSc and Honors thesis students.
