Research Interest
Most of his research focuses on international cooperation. I am interested in this phenomenon through its manifestations both global and regional. My work on global cooperation, for example, has focused on the role of the United Nations in the development of developing countries. At the regional level, I am particularly interested in the dynamics of inter-American cooperation. Two guiding ideas mark all of my research. The first is that international institutions exert an influence that is often underestimated on the course of international relations. The second is that the values that drive political actors (whether international organizations, governments or ordinary citizens) shape their approach to international cooperation.
