Biography
Dr. Thom Erdle received his BSc Forestry from UNB, his Masters in Forestry from University of British Columbia and then returned to UNB for his PhD. Thom spent the first 20 years of his professional career as a practicing forester. He was head of forest management planning in the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources where he was responsible for forest inventory, growth and yield, and forest management planning in the province. During that time he supervised installation of the world’s first ARC/INFO geographic information system, which is the worldwide standard today. He followed this with six years working as a forestry consultant to numerous government, industry, and NGO agencies. In 1996 he joined the Faculty of Forestry and Environmental Management at UNB where he now teaches several undergraduate courses and is the Assistant Dean.
