Biography
Dr. Keen joined the faculty of UNBC in July 2004. He concurrently holds an appointment with the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences to teach genetic epidemiology to postgraduate and medical students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Erasmus University in Rotterdam as well as to supervise postgraduate students. Dr. Keen has held appointments as an Assistant Professor teaching mathematics and statistics at Royal Roads Military College, statistics at the University of Manitoba, and genetic epidemiology and biostatistics at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He holds a B.Sc. (First Class Honors) in mathematics from Simon Fraser University, an M.Sc. (with thesis) in meteorology from McGill University, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in statistics from the University of Toronto. He has over 26 refereed articles in journals and encyclopedias.
Research Interest
His research involves the development of novel statistical techniques and cutting-edge computer software for the analysis of multivariate family data in the study of complex genetic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and lupus. Dr. Keen has served as a statistical consultant designing and analyzing clinical trials and public health intervention studies. He has recently been involved in consulting projects with the forest products industry in Prince George. Dr. Keen is a member of the Statistical Society of Canada and a past President of the Statistical Association of Manitoba. Dr. Keen is accredited as a Professional Statistician, with the designation P.Stat., by the Statistical Society of Canada.
