Biography
Denis Lacelle is working as a Associate Professor in department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics at University of Ottawa, Canada. He also got: Ontario Early Researcher Award, 2015; University of Ottawa Young Researcher of the Year Award in Science and Technology, 2013; University of Ottawa, Faculty of Arts, Young Researcher of the Year for 2013. He is the author of many articles published in several reputed journals.
Research Interest
The long-term goal of Denis' research program is to understand and explain the physical and (bio)geochemical processes that shape(d) and define(d) permafrost environments during the past, present and future. Currently, his research involves: 1) investigation of the distribution, origin and age of ice-rich permafrost in the Canadian Arctic and the response of these landscapes to warmer-wetter climate; 2) investigation of the biogeochemistry (soluble ions, nutrients, soil Corg and C-compound classes) between the active layer, the relict active layer and the permafrost below the maximum depth of thaw and how it relates to thermal and moisture conditions; 3) investigation of the growth of ground ice in very dry and cold environments. The research is being conducted at sites ranging from the low Arctic (Ogilvie Mountains, central YT; Peel Plateau and Richardson Mountains, NWT) to the high Arctic (Eureka and Resolute region, NU). Research also takes places in the McMurdo Dry Valleys and Lake Untersee Oasis in Antarctica, which provides an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of ground ice and the biogeochemistry permafrost under a range of climate, landforms and ecosystems.
