Biography
Vivian Welch completed her PhD in Population Health in 2010 on the methods to assess health equity effects in systematic reviews. She is interested in evidence-based global health and knowledge translation. Vivian is a Clinical Epidemiology Methodologist at the Bruyère Research Institute, lead of the BRI Method Centre, Assistant Professor at University of Ottawa, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Global Health, University of Ottawa. Vivian's research interests involve systematic reviews, health equity, global health, knowledge translation and clinical guidelines. Vivian received an Ontario Early Researcher Award in 2014. Her CIHR-funded research focuses on three areas. The first one is related to improving reporting of health equity considerations in systematic reviews, randomized trials and clinical guidelines. Second, she is working on applying novel methods to systematic reviews with an equity focus. Thirdly, she is looking at the confluence of ethics and systematic reviews, and how systematic reviews inform decisions where tradeoffs in ethical and moral values are needed. Vivian is a co-convenor of the Campbell and Cochrane Equity Methods Group, Cochrane Agenda Setting and Priority Setting group, and an editor with the Campbell International Development Review Group and section editor of the BMC Methodology Research journal.
