Biography
Gabriela received her Ph.D. in Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2010; between 2010 and 2012, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at McMaster University’s Connections research program. Prior her doctoral studies in Canada, Gabriela was Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health (2001-2002), where she completed graduate study and professional development in substance abuse prevention and treatment. Gabriela’s research interests converge at the intersection of practice in the field of addiction, knowledge translation and exchange, and institutional theory. In her previous research, she examined the issues related to implementation of integrated treatment for co-occurring substance abuse, mental health, and gambling problems in Ontario. In her recent research, Gabriela focused on enhancing our understanding of what constitutes evidence and how individual attributes of decision makers and broader institutional environment of health and social services affect practice-related decision making in addiction treatment agencies in Canada.
