Biography
My clinical area of clinical expertise is Emergency Nursing. I have nineteen years of experience in Emergency Nursing at Pasqua Hospital in Regina and Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. In 2004, I obtained my national Emergency Nursing Certification (ENC). My emergency nursing experience has been developed through my training as a MN prepared Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at the University of Calgary and Foothills Hospital. After 2 ½ years as a teaching professor in the Faculty of Nursing. My undergraduate education is from the University of Alberta where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) in l976. I later went to the University of Calgary where I obtained a Master of Nursing (Clinical Nurse Specialist) degree. In 2004, I obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Regina, where I did research on advanced nursing practice roles. I have completed the theory portion of the Post Masters Diploma-Advanced Nurse Practitioner at the University of Toronto. I am the Vice President of the Saskatchewan Clinical Nurse Specialist Professional Practice Group. My professional life has largely been in nursing practice. I worked as a Nurse in the Emergency Department of the Pasqua Hospital for a number of years. Prior to that I worked in Emergency and Intensive Care Units in hospitals in Regina, Moose Jaw, Calgary, Edmonton and Victoria. I have had several years in administration including Head Nurse on a Medical Teaching Unit, Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster, BC, Assistant Director Nursing, Coronary Care, Regina General Hospital and Executive Director of the Victorian Order of Nurses Regina Branch. I also taught briefly in the diploma nursing programs at Wascana Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences and Douglas College in Surrey BC. From 1997-2000 I was a Nursing Practice Consultant with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association. Most recently I was on faculty at the College of Nursing, University of Saskatchewan teaching both the undergraduate and graduate (MN-NP) program. After 2 ½ years as a teaching professor in the Faculty of Nursing, I assumed the role of Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Research. I am responsible for delivery of our Master of Nursing Nurse Practitioner program, and currently developing other clinical masters programs.
