Biography
Joseph Piwowar is an Associate Professor in Department of Geography & Environmental Studies at University of Regina, Canada. His research is focused on using remote sensing to determine how climate change has already been affecting different regions on the Earth and then using that information to make plausible predictions on how these regions will be affected in the future. I view this research as following 3 sequential themes: (a) Develop methods to extract climate signals from long temporal sequences of remote sensing images; (b) Apply these methods to assess the climate sensitivities of ecoregions; and (c) Produce future environmental simulations by modelling these climate sensitivities under different climate scenarios.
Research Interest
Remote sensing, geographic information systems, climate change impacts, northern mixed-grass prairie, Arctic sea ice.
