Nick Jones

Biography

Dr. Nicholas (Nick) A. Jones is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Police Studies program in the Department of Justice Studies at the University of Regina. He earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from San Jose State University in 1997. Prior to his furthering his academic career he worked with federal parolees and in a youth custody facility. He returned to the University of Calgary and completed his Doctorate in Sociology in 2006 for his work focussing on the judicial response to the Rwandan Genocide. He joined the Faculty of Arts at the University of Regina in 2006. He has authored one book and 18 peer-reviewed articles, technical reports, and book chapters. In 2011, he published “The Courts of Genocide: Politics and the Rule of Law in Rwanda and Arusha” with Routledge – Cavendish U.K., nominated for the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences book of the year award in that same year. His primary research interests include genocide, restorative justice, transitional justice, Aboriginal justice issues, and criminological theory. He has taught the following courses at the U of R: JS 100 (Introduction to Justice), JS 230 (Introduction to Canadian Law), JS 318 (Restorative and Community Justice), JS 319 (Criminological Theory), JS 332 (Law and Society), JS 341 (Policing in a Democratic Society), JS 431 (International Law and Justice), JS 498AB Genocide, and SOST 203 (Research Methods).
