Biography
Dr. Wahid completed his M.Sc and Ph.D from the University of Calgary. He earned his B.Sc degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He was awarded with "Killam Scholarship", the most prestigious academic award for his doctoral research. He has won numerous other scholarships and awards, including the most distinguished "Canada Graduate Scholarship" from NSERC. Dr. Wahid joined the Dept. of ECE in July 2007 as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor in July 2012 and to Full Professor in July 2017. He has authored/co-authored 2 book chapters and over 140 peer-reviewed journal and international conference papers in the field of image and video compression, embedded systems, health informatics, m-health and e-health, body area networks, and medical imaging. He has two patents granted. Dr. Wahid is affiliated with the division of “Biomedical Engineering” in the College of Engineering. He has founded a rapid prototyping facility named "Multimedia Processing and Prototyping Laboratory" for design, develop and performance analysis of digital systems in image and video processing and medical imaging applications. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
