Biography

"Richard joined the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in August, 2013. His focus since this time has been developing and teaching engineering design and prototyping. His outlook on engineering education is summarized as: ""Preparing students for a creative professional career in Engineering through experiential learning, creative design projects and physical prototyping"" Previous to his appointment at the University, Richard spent many years as a professional engineer and entrepreneur. He has worked in automotive design, consulting engineering (industrial aerodynamics and noise/vibration), and advanced CAD system design. He co-founded a software development company – Pelican Forge Software – which successfully delivered effective high-end, data centric solutions for process and energy plant design. Richard also spent time as an artist in the field of historic and alternative process photography. His works exist in galleries and private collections throughout the province, as well as the permanent collection of the Saskatchewan Arts Board. For the last two years, Richard has been director of the Shad Valley program at the UofS. Shad Valley is an engineering and entrepreneurship enrichment program for talented high school students. He also passionately pursues personal projects and interests including building and flying aircraft, sailing small and large boats, and building/driving electric vehicles (road and water). "
