Biography

Alison Warner, B.A. Hons. (Queen’s), LL.B. (U of T), LL.M. (N.Y.U.) is the Senior Legal Officer at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. After graduating as the gold medalist from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law ('95), she clerked at the Court of Appeal in 1995-96 for Justices Krever, Robins, Finlayson, Osborne and Laskin. Alison obtained an LL.M. from New York University as a Hauser Global Scholar ('96) before being called to the Ontario bar in 1998. She was an associate at the Toronto litigation firm of Lax O’Sullivan Cronk before returning to the Court of Appeal as a staff lawyer in the fall of 1998. Alison has assisted the judges on a number of high-profile civil and criminal appeals, including Waxman v. Waxman, Reference re Steven Murray Truscott, R. v. Phillion, and the summary judgment appeals in Combined Air Mechanical v. Flesch. She has particular experience in the areas of class actions and the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal in civil matters. Alison co-authored the text, The Law of Class Actions in Canada (Toronto: Thomson Reuters Canada, 2015), with the Hon. Warren K. Winker, Justice Paul M. Perell and Professor Jasminka Kalajdzic.
